Mike has his Ph.D. in Bioenergetics (interdisciplinary program in Exercise Science, Physiology, & Biochemistry) from East Carolina University. Dr. Ormsbee earned his Master of Science degree in Exercise Physiology and Sports Nutrition from South Dakota State University where he also worked with Matt Vukovich, Ph.D., the former Chairman of Scientific Advisory Board for Experimental and Applied Sciences (EAS). Previously, Mike worked as a clinical research associate in the human performance laboratory at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY.
Dr. Ormsbee's research and expertise has focused on training and eating to prevent obesity-related diseases, achieving optimal body composition and optimizing athletic performance. His effort in these areas has led to his work being published in scientific journals and presented nationally. He has written numerous health, nutrition and fitness related articles for local and national publications including Muscle Media, Men’s Health, IDEA Fitness Journal, Achieve and the LeadingEdge Magazine. He currently is a feature columnist and the editor-in-chief for Achieve Magazine. Mike also serves as a health segment expert and consultant for local television stations and fitness organizations.
After a hockey career at Skidmore College and East Carolina University (where he still holds the ECU record for goals in a season, points in a season and goals in one game), Mike is now one of the ice hockey coaches for ECU and serves as the team’s strength and conditioning coach. In his spare time, Mike enjoys traveling, training for sprint triathlons, cycling, and weight-lifting.
